I've been wanting to write something about the "war" between giants to conquer the thriving mobile instant messaging market for some time, and just a few days ago I came across an interesting discussion with a friend on the topic, which in the end I also decided to turn over this nice contribution to host on the blog. I therefore thank my friend Adele Lerario and the editorial staff of Newscast.it, a Tech & LifeStyle information site, for the article I am presenting to you today. If you think of “contact” now you think of “ WhatsApp ”. The messaging system bought by Facebook continues to make waves among users who have underlined their loyalty by also bypbutting the annual payment of the symbolic sum of 0.89 cents.
Instant messages, photos, videos, and voice messages: WhatsApp is the Uruguay Mobile Number List app that everyone, absolutely everyone, has on their smartphone. It has also resisted user protests about the blue check, protests that WhatsApp has circumvented with its latest release. Yet even this giant is starting to tremble because of a well-fighted direct rival: Telegram . Also based on the mobile number for identification, it has a similar layout to Whatsapp, but also offers something more. In fact, Telegram supports the sending of zip and mp3 files, provides groups of up to 200 participants and is a much safer system than WhatsApp, because it is encrypted. Furthermore, it also includes the hidden chat option, which allows you to send encrypted messages: just go to the "Start a new secret chat" function. It is a complete messaging system, easy to use, fast and also free. Yet it fails to enter the undisputed dominance of WhatsApp.
The reason is simple: it is not widespread. And in a time when the watchword is sharing, this really matters a lot, if not everything. If our friends, relatives and, why not, even work contacts have not installed Telegram on their device but have remained faithful to the green WhatsApp, using it becomes practically useless. Zuckenberg's move was therefore, once again, a winner: he created a foundation that everyone complains about and that everyone continues to use; he bought an application that receives constant criticism for increasingly frequent downtime but which no one seems about to abandon.
